According to a report, former President Donald Trump told aides "I'm just not going to leave" the White House after he lost the election.
On Monday, Cheney appeared on CNN to discuss a series of scoops about Trump in the upcoming book, "Confidence Man."
Cheney was asked what she thought about Trump's refusal to accept the results.
"It's clear that when you're in the moment that we faced, everyone has to stand up and take responsibility and I think it's not surprising that those are the things he said," she said. It confirms the reality of the danger.
The committee is chaired by the Wyoming congresswoman. One of the few Republican critics of Trump was Cheney.
She said anyone who stands aside and says someone else will handle it is putting the nation at risk.
On Monday, Trump's lawyers asked a federal judge to keep the FBI from reviewing more than 100 classified documents seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate.
