According to Ian Rapoport, San Francisco 49ers running back Eli Mitchell is expected to miss some time due to a knee injury.
Mitchell is due to have an exam that will show the extent of his injury. He could be out for a long period of time.
Mitchell injured his knee in the season opener in each of the last two years. Kyle Shanahan said the speedster would be tested on Monday.
Mitchell has been injured in his young career. The second-year running back missed six games in his first year because of injuries. He was hurt in the preseason and missed the entire season.
Jeff Wilson Jr. ran for 22 yards on nine carries when Mitchell was out. Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price will be Wilson's backups until Mitchell comes back.
San Francisco's rushing attack is unique in that star receiver Deebo Samuel is a vital part of it, as he carried the ball eight times for 52 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. The quarterback led the team with 13 runs. While Mitchell is out, the 49ers should be able to manage their run game.
