The New York Times reported Monday that Donald Trump told administration officials after the 2020 election that he intended to stay in the White House.
According to the report, Trump asked how he could leave when he won an election.
"Why should I leave if they stole it from me?" Trump asked the chair of the RNC, according to an aide.
This is the first report on Trump actually announcing his intentions to remain in the White House after the end of his term in January 2021.
After seeming to admit defeat to administration officials in the days after the election, Trump refused.
Two months after the Associated Press called the race in Biden's favor, Trump acknowledged that Biden would take office. The admission was made a day after five people were killed in an insurrection by Trump supporters. A number of books on Donald Trump's time in office, including a memoir from Trump's son-in-law and former presidential advisor, have been released in recent months.
According to an excerpt from a forthcoming book, aides found presidential papers in a White House toilet on several occasions and thought Trump was the one who flushed them. The report was made up by a reporter to get publicity for a book.
The book says that Trump asked generals to follow in the footsteps of the third Reich.
