Will Potter be able to handle Chelsea's superstars? (2:00)

How will Graham Potter handle the senior players? There is a delay of 2 minutes.

The brutal reality of elite football is that most of Potter's players will not be able to play in the game against FC Salzburg.

You can watch LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, more on the US version of the network.

Last week, Potter was hired as the new manager of the club. He is more likely to make a positive impression than a negative one. Potter forged a reputation as a tactical thinker who builds teams that play exciting, attacking football and perform beyond expectations in his previous jobs as a coach.

Joe Fagan was the last English manager to win the European Cup/Champions League in 1984 and no English manager has ever won the premier league. When results went against him at Manchester United, how much protection did his contract give him?

The first red flag is raised when a new manager gets to meet his players for the first time. Without being able to match that success himself as a player or coach, Potter is already dealing with a skeptical audience.

- Chelsea hire Potter from Brighton to replace Tuchel
- Sources: Chelsea want sporting director before World Cup

He achieved 42 wins from 135 games and kept the club in the premier league for four seasons, but he is dealing with players who have much greater expectations than those he worked with.

This might seem harsh, but when he succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Man United, he immediately raised doubts among his new players by telling them he would make the squad fit. Potter needs to convince the dressing room that he can take the team and players to a new level.

His coaches are also the same. The staff at United were unable to inspire or motivate the players due to the fact that they had never trained a world-class squad. BillyReid, the former Hamilton Academical manager, is one of the five members of Potter's backroom staff that he has taken to his new club.

Steve Nicol is of the opinion that Graham Potter should be the new coach of the club.

Brendan Rodgers took charge ofLiverpool in 2012 with a similar career trajectory to Potter, but he was able to succeed because he had a dressing room that was not used to winning. He arrived at a time when the squad was in need of a rebuild and they had not won a trophy in six years. Rodgers didn't meet the kind of resistance that Moyes met and Potter may also come across with players who won the trophy 18 months ago

Rodgers was given time to make changes to the squad and play a different style of football, and he almost won the title in his first season. The Rodgers era was a success in that he putLiverpool on course to win again, despite the fact that they have a different level of play. Even though the club's owners made mistakes, he made it better. The new manager was appointed when the new owners of the club were still learning how to recruit players.

There is a similar problem that Potter deals with. L.A. Dodgers co-owner Boehly has only been in charge of the club since May.

Having spent so much in one window, financial fair play regulations will restrict Chelsea's spending in January and next summer, meaning Potter will have to work with a squad that is arguably unbalanced and poorly performing. Potter is stuck with what he has, and many like younger players who are more likely to be receptive to change, but Potter is mostly stuck with what he has.

Potter has a lot of problems to overcome due to an inexperienced new owner and a group of experienced players.

The best or biggest name was usually appointed as the manager. The players and fans grew accustomed to the likes of Jose, Carlo, Antonio, and Tuchel running the team, so hiring theBrighton manager is a clear change.

Potter is a rising star in management but his new players won't give him time to make them better. He will meet resistance from people who don't buy into his methods, and they will expect to be impressed from the beginning. Potter can't waste any time when it comes to delivering victories on the pitch at a club of his stature, as patience only comes withresults.
