Air India has a plan to lease 30 aircraft over the next 15 months. This is a fascinating development.
A total of 30 jets have been leased by Air India.
There are 16 aircraft that have been grounded for a long time, including 10 narrow body jets and six wide body jets. The expansion of Air India's fleet will increase its active fleet by over 50%.
Air India's fleet consists of many different types of aircraft.
My understanding is that Air India is going to place a larger aircraft order soon, including for wide body jets. Air India is rumored to be ordering A350s for a long-term project.
Air India acquiring Boeing jets is intriguing to me. We don't know much about that yet. According to the airline, it will fly from Mumbai to New York, Newark, and San Francisco, as well as Bangalore to San Francisco. Premium economy will be offered for the first time on these jets.
I am pretty sure that Air India will be taking over some Delta Boeings that were retired during the Pandemic. There is only one former operator that had at least five jets with premium economy. I was under the impression that the jets were going to be converted to freighter aircraft.
Air India would likely continue to offer Delta One Suites, with doors at every business class seat, as this would represent a huge passenger experience upgrade.
Air India has a business class that has seven seats per row.
Premium economy will be offered by Air India, so I am curious to see how that will affect the airline.
30 jets will be leased by Air India, including the A320neos, the A321neos, and the Boeings. Air India will be reactivating 16 planes that have been in long term storage once these planes join their fleet.
I am excited to hear that Air India will be getting more wide body jets. The upgrade to Air India's passenger experience would be marked by these planes.
What do you think about the jets Air India is buying?
