After nearly two years of testing, the company is close to offering symmetrical speeds over cable. More than 50 million US households will be able to access the company's new 2Gbps service by the end of the decade. The initial roll out of multi-Gig internet in Augusta, Colorado Springs, Panama City Beach and Philadelphia was spotted in a press release.
If you don't sign up for the new service, you will see an improvement in uploading speeds. In Colorado Springs, some tiers have upload speeds up to 10 times faster than before. Customers will be limited to uploading files at 200 Mbps. DOCSIS 4.0 will allow for multi-Gig symmetrical speeds in the future.
The company has been transitioning to the standard for a while. It will have the network in place to offer 10Gbps download speeds and 6Gbps upload speeds on the same connection once it's done. It would be possible for it to provide symmetrical speeds across its cable packages. That is an area where cable has been lagging behind.
