Local reports say that Japanese officials may relax border controls in order to boost the economy.

The deputy chief cabinet secretary said a weak dollar was the most effective way to attract tourists.

The Japanese currency fell to a 24 year low against the US dollar last week.

In the not so distant future, a cap on daily entries could be removed.

Most foreign visitors have been barred from Japan for the last two years.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics were delayed last year.

The number of foreign tourists allowed into the country was increased to 50,000 per day from 20,000, and tourists were no longer required to travel with a guide.

The daily cap on arrivals may be scrapped completely.

The US dollar is gaining strength as investors watch the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes.
