Jerry Jones told reporters that the Cowboys quarterback will have thumb surgery and will be out for a while.

Jones told reporters that he was disappointed by the news, while McCarthy said it was a significant injury.

Dak Prescott pulled himself from the game, was evaluated on the sideline and departed for the locker room after taking two hits to his right hand while following through on throws.

After exiting late in the fourth quarter, he was listed as questionable to return.

He was replaced by Cooper Rush.

Jones said after the game that they would have to have Cooper step up. We will go from there after he gets all the reps.

It's a blow for a guy who has battled injuries over the last couple of years.

He missed most of the games in 2020 due to an ankle injury. He dealt with a shoulder and calf injury during the season.

A pair of cleats made his ankle feel uncomfortable, so he was limited this week. He promised that he was good to go.

Dallas lost their first game of the season.
