The former chief of staff to the vice president criticized the lawyers for the former president for their handling of the investigation.

During an interview on Fox News' "Media Buzz" on Sunday, host Howard Kurtz mentioned that Martin Short had been critical of the raid on Mar-a-Lago and asked if media coverage of it has been fair.

The Department of Justice has an extra burden of transparency due to thepoliticized actions of the FBI in the Russia investigation, according to Short.

The documents held at Mar-a-Lago that Short expressed concern over were mocks of Trump's legal team.

A lot of the documents were at Mar-a-Lago. It seems like it's not the most secure environment. I think there's a question about why Trump's lawyers were so deceptive in the affidavit.

One of the challenges they currently face is the difference between having good legal counsel and playing a lawyer on TV.

The FBI conducted a court-authorized search at Trump's Florida residence and club in August. The Department of Justice spent more than a year trying to get the documents back from the lawyers, and court records suggest they didn't tell them.

The New York Times reported that Trump's lawyers told the Justice Department that all the classified materials had been returned. The Times reported that the Justice Department couldn't trust what Trump's lawyers told them due to the former president withholding information.

Legal experts and prosecutors have mocked the legal team.

"They seem to be either completely incompetent or out of their depth," said a former federal prosecutor. The former president has a hard time finding lawyers because he requires them to file documents and take positions that have no legal support at all.

The Times reported on Saturday that lawyers for Trump often end up facing legal troubles of their own, with some joking that "Maga stands for Making Attorneys get Attorneys."
