The Russian army is losing at least a battalion's worth of vehicles and men a day as Ukrainian counteroffensives roll back Russian territorial gains. Every day, hundreds of casualties and scores of vehicle write-offs are reported.

Russia is losing a lot of money. The Russian army only had a small number of under-strength battalions in the south and east of the country before they were attacked by the Ukrainians.

In less than two weeks, the Ukrainians have destroyed, badly damaged or captured 1,200 Russian tanks, fighting vehicles, trucks, helicopters, warplanes and drones. Over 300 of the Russian losses have been confirmed by independent analysts.

Ukrainian officials say that over 5,000 Russian troops have been killed in the country. The U.S. estimates of Russian losses have been slightly lower than the Ukrainian estimates.

In a war that has been going on for 200 days, Russian losses in Ukraine have increased by a tenth. As the Ukrainians launched their attacks, the Russian casualties and vehicle write-offs doubled.

The Russians have failed to cause heavy losses on the Ukrainian brigades in their defense of the south and east. The Ukrainians have lost one tenth of their troops and vehicles since August 30.

Half of the Russian vehicle losses are captured. In the last week and a half, the Ukrainian army has taken over enough Russian tanks, fighting vehicles and weaponry to equip a brigade. The Ukrainian army has more vehicles now than it did before it launched its counteroffensive.

Thousands of Russian prisoners of war have been taken by the Ukrainians. Oleksiy Arestovych is an adviser to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Russian losses have changed the war. Before the Ukrainians swept through northeastern Ukraine last week, the Russians were short of trained troops and equipment. In the south, Ukrainian advances have not been as dramatic.

The Kremlin didn't make good on its losses from this spring when the Ukrainians attacked last month.

Thousands of men and hundreds of armored vehicles were lost to the encirclement of Kyiv. The Kremlin launched a nationwide recruitment drive, lifting age caps for new army recruits and offering rich cash bonuses in a desperate attempt to stand up scores of new battalions.

The Russian army succeeded in forming the 3rd Army Corps with 10,000 or more troops and hundreds of T-80 and T-90 tanks. The 3rd AC went into northeastUkraine last week and immediately suffered heavy losses.

The Russian army is in a state of disrepair. The Ukrainian army has a number of advantages. Russia has run out of easy sources of fresh troops and equipment, which could lead to a political crisis in the future.
