Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of the Department of Transportation, is optimistic that the U.S. carrier can fix their problems in time for the next important air travel season.

According to Buttigieg, a combination of airlines learning some valuable lessons from the mass chaos this year, and continued government pressure, will fix the situation before Thanksgiving.

Buttigieg thinks it will get better by the holidays. The airlines need to be prepared to service the tickets that they're selling.

The airlines have taken the DOT's initiatives, including the new online dashboard to track delayed and canceled flights, to heart, according to Buttigieg.

He said that they were pushing them. If they fail to live up to the rules, we want to know if that's happened to you.

Buttigieg was forced to drive from Washington to New York after his flight was canceled.

We put off vacations for two years. It's wonderful that we're doing it again. He said that the system needs to be ready.
