BMW PGA Championship: Shane Lowry holds off Rory McIlroy & Jon Rahm

The BMW PGA Championship title was decided on the 18th by a single stroke.

The Spaniard made two eagles and seven birdies while playing the last 10 holes in nine under for a closing 62 as he set a testing clubhouse target of 16 under

After finding the par-5 18th in two, he two-putted for a 65 and finished 17 under.

He had a chance to tie Ireland's Lowry but his putt narrowly missed.

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in the UK, died on Thursday at the age of 92.

The tournament was reduced to 54 holes after players, caddies and officials paid tribute to the Queen.

He claimed his first win since the Open Championship after finishing at the top of a high-class group.

He said he was the happiest man in the world. It has been a good year, I have been close a few times and I wanted to win.

I have contended in the past that this one was the top of the list. The bad shots crept into my head but I am happy.

I had to worry about the guy behind me, who can do anything on the last few holes. I am enjoying playing golf.

18 players from the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV Golf Series were competing in the tournament because their suspension had been lifted.

Talor Gooch shot a closing 67 to finish in fourth place.

"I wanted to go and win the tournament for myself and those who have stayed loyal and done everything for the tour," he said after his triumph. One for the good guys.

In the lead-up to the tournament, he said it would be hard for him to compete against players from the break.

On the course it was almost the perfect response from the FedEx champion but an eagle and four birdies in a final round that saw him hit several poor iron shots were not enough for the four-time major winner to win.
