Veronica was given a stack of papers by her boss.

Veronica said she would rather be with her family. She declined the 6:30 pm meeting because it was outside of her work hours.

They aren't real. Sarai Soto is a 30-year-old content creator whose TikToks have racked up millions of likes and views.

People feel heard, they feel seen, and they feel like someone is standing up for them. Although it's exaggerated, I've been through those exact same scenarios, so I can't tell you how many messages I receive.

The act of quitting, the act of doing your job, and nothing above and beyond are all things that Soto has done before. She left a terrible job in order to preserve her mental health.

It is a fundamental part of her success. The videos from the workplace were the ones that went crazy. There is an audience of people who feel stuck at work, can't quit, and want the scenarios she's acting out.

As some workers have rebranded it, " acting your wage," the characters and other workers are quiet quitting.

Put in the amount of effort that matches your salary

The internet has set ablaze due to the trends of quiet quitting and acting your wage, with managers threatening that quiet quitters could be the first to go.

Managers are more likely to quit than workers are. As prices rise, wages don't keep up, and go above and beyond, employees are no longer onboard with that. That's where you make your money.

If a company pays you minimum wage, you'll put in minimum effort. If you're acting your wage, that means that the amount of labor that you're putting in reflects the amount that you're making. If you're not making a living wage, you're not going to go above and beyond and do all this extra work.

Quiet quitting doesn't mean you don't do a good job or that you're no longer invested in your work.

She said it simply means make sure you go to work and set boundaries when you feel burned out.

Make changes to your environment that you can control

Billy, a warehouse worker in Ireland in his 30s, wants to make work work for him. Billy used ambient radio to listen to audiobooks as he worked the night shift. He was able to finish Karl Marx's "Das Kapital" in four weeks.

I made a change to what was playing on the radio. Billy, whose last name is known to Insider but does not want the public to know, only did that. There was nothing new. I wasn't doing anything else.

Billy said that controlling something you're able to influence at work is important. You don't need to be an audiobook to change the TV channel at the bar where you work.

You are put into a box at work. Billy said it was someone else's box.

Even if they are small, there are ways that we can control our workplace. The victories of making work work for you can push towards something bigger.

There is a lot of power in the hands of employees. The Great Resignation gives them choices. I hope that people will keep raising awareness about this.
