Kyle Vantrease scored on an 8-yard run with 36 seconds left to give Georgia Southern a 45-42 victory over Nebraska.

Georgia Southern players ran onto the field to celebrate their first win in 13 games against Power Five opponents after Nebraska's Timmy Bleekrode missed a 52 yard field goal as time expired.

It was one of three major upsets of the day. Marshall defeated Notre Dame and Appalachian State defeated Texas A&M before the Eagles could get their act together.

Scott Frost now faces a home game next week against Oklahoma as the pressure mounts on him.

"That one hurt," he stated. We lost as a team and won as a team. I didn't have an answer after we were beaten on schemes.

They pursued us.

The Huskers had scored at least 35 points in each of their first two games. The Eagles moved in 11 plays to score the winning touchdown.

The quarterback ran for the go-ahead score after completing a fourth-and-2 pass to Hood.

Thompson moved the Huskers from their 23 to the Eagles' 34 and Bleekrode missed his field goal.

With 3:05 left in the game, Nebraska took the lead on Thompson's 1-yard run after Buford's second pick-six gave the Eagles a three-point lead.

Thompson was the leader of the Huskers in 15 plays. Thompson went over the pile at the goal line after Marcus Washington made a catch at the 1.

It was only the second game for Georgia Southern coach Clay Helton and it came almost a year to the day that he was fired by Southern California.

Helton said she was proud of the boys.

When Buffalo lost at Nebraska a year ago, Vantrease was the quarterback. Green and Allen ran for 132 and 85 yards, respectively.

Georgia Southern ran a lot of what we had already seen, but I don't think we won a lot of one-on-one battles.

Thompson scored a touchdown and ran for three others. Grant carried the ball 27 times and scored a touchdown.

In the year they defeated Florida for their only other win over a Power Five team, the Eagles transitioned from the Championship Subdivision to the Bowl Subdivision.
