The New York Jets will be without left tackle Duane Brown for at least four games after he was placed on injured reserve.
The Jets are hopeful that Brown can return from his shoulder injury in Week 5, but there is no guarantee. Three weeks after signing a two-year, $20 million contract, he was injured in practice. The deal has a guarantee.
It's serious enough that surgical options were considered, even though the injury wasn't disclosed. He will attempt to rehabilitate the injury.
The Jets were able to practice a full week with their new line because of it.
Brown will be replaced by George Fant for the opener. Fant was moved to right tackle to accommodate Brown, who was added to the roster when Becton suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Fant spoke out Friday, saying it's been a frustrating situation. Max Mitchell will be the right tackle.
Brown only practiced for seven days before getting hurt. He has been a starter for the past two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
Brown has started 203 games over the course of his career. He has been to five Pro Bowls.
Grant Hermanns was elevated from the practice squad to replace Brown.
