According to a report in The Athletic, Kyle Busch will be joining Richard Childress Racing in the fall of 2023.

The report states that an announcement is expected Tuesday.

Busch, who won two Cup titles while also building Toyota's most successful truck team, wasn't able to agree on a new contract with his current employer.

Busch has offered to drive below his market value in order to get a deal done after M&M Mars leaves NASCAR at the end of the year.

According to the report, it's not known if Richard Childress Racing will sponsor Busch.

In what has been a one-win season with career lows in most categories, Busch admitted his contract status has been stressed.

His engine blew with 22 laps to go in the opening race of the playoffs, after he dominated at Darlington. Busch did not advance to the second round because he finished 30th and was 11th in the playoffs.

Busch has been on a publicity tour that appears to be an attempt to show he can be personable, so he handled the disappointment of the race with dignity. He praised his team for all the hard work they've put in and for never giving up.

He smiled and said he didn't know. Tomorrow, the sun will rise.

On a good day for Toyota, Busch finished third at Kansas in the spring. Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, and Martin Truex Jr. all finished in the top six as Toyotas took five of the top six spots. There was only one other Toyota.
