If a team is knocked out of the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup in an earlier round, they can use those match days, but it's complicated if the league game is shown on TV.
There will still be four clubs that won't be playing in the Carabao Cup semifinals.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, fans paid respects to her.
The vacant midweeks are there for a reason. The FA Cup quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will need to be rearranged in order to accommodate the vacant slots.
There is little room for maneuver for teams who go far in a European competition. If a club were to reach the finals of both domestic cups and the semifinals of a European competition, there wouldn't be enough time to rearrange the league matches. The problem has become worse because of this.
The worst-case scenario needs to be considered by the league. It can't sleepwalk into a situation where the dates run out, so it will be looking for the best way to avoid the consequences of the postponements.
If at all possible, matches won't be played at the same time as the European Championship matches. The Premier League was fined over one million dollars for doing so. Leagues are still advised to avoid a clash, though this has been relaxed recently.
Lorient played Lyon last week in a rearranged game. It would only be on at the same time as the early European matches because it was scheduled on a Thursday.
If there's no other place to put the games, the European midweeks could be used by the premier league.
It's not good for any of the teams that are in Europe, such as West Ham United.
There are seven clubs that pose the problem for the schedulers, and four of them are in London next weekend. They're most likely to go far in both cups.
If any of next weekend's matches have to be postponed for security reasons, there may be some creative thinking that needs to be done. The FA Cup replays should be canceled once again. Due to congestion caused by COVID-19 postponements, this happened in each of the last two seasons.
If the FA Cup replays stay in place it is unlikely that those dates will be used for rearranged games.
There is no chance of the Carabao Cup being canceled, but there is pressure to make the semifinals one-legged.
The FA Cup final will take place on June 3 and the last day of the league will be May 28. Wembley is booked for the playoffs of the English Football League on the weekend of May 27-29 so this solution is very unlikely.
It is not possible to say yes. After the FA Cup final on June 3, there will be an international block for Euro 2024 matches.
