The captain of the Yankees returned to Yankee Stadium for the first time in five years and was honored for his Hall of Fame nomination.

With his plaque on a stand in front of the pitcher's mound, Jeter spoke at the end of a 27 minute ceremony before the game.

I was born in NJ. I spent my formative years in Kalamazoo. He said at the end of his speech that he lived in Miami. I feel like I'm at home here with you.

He was a 14-time All-Star and led the Yankees to five World Series titles in 20 seasons. He was accepted into the Hall at Cooperstown after being picked on over 400 ballots.

During a ceremony in May of last year, a plaque was unveiled in Monument Park to honor the man. He was the CEO of the Miami Marlins.

Joe Torre was followed by his former manager and ex-teammates.

The Yankees manager said that this was one of the faces of baseball on the most famous team.

Billy Crystal narrated a video after the guests were introduced. A group of people, including his wife and three daughters, emerged from the tunnel behind the left-center field wall on a cart that would take them to the field.

The guest of honor, 9-month-old River, sat in mom Hannah's lap and mouthed "Thank you" several times as he waved to the crowd. The majority of fans in the ballpark remained on their feet.

"When the crowd was chanting my name, I was trying to explain to my two oldest, not the 9-month old, but I was trying to explain to them because I thought they might be a little scared or intimated by the noise."

"I told you this place was special, and I'm here to tell you about it," he said as Story and Bella stood behind him.

If they stayed in their seats, he would give them ice cream.

He joked that they lost a deal.

Hal Steinbrenner gave a check to the Turn 2 Foundation for $222,222.22.

Everybody is booed here. I've been booed before. Yankees fans, we've all been spoiled. Over the course of my career, there has been a lot of success and Yankee fans expect excellence.

The president was told by the Yankees captain that he needed to throw from the rubber or the crowd would boo. He ignored his own advice and threw from in front of the mound.

When I walked up to the mound, they booed me. I haven't thrown a ball since I threw out the first pitch. I was a little afraid of bouncing it.
