Almost every other publicly traded gaming company has left the country after the invasion of Ukraine, but Roblox Corp. is still popular in Russia.
Dave Baszucki, chief executive officer of Roblox, said at the conference that Russia has more than 2 million active users a day. After the US, Brazil and the Philippines are Russians. There are more than 11 million daily active users in the United States.
Baszucki said that they are growing in all countries.
The machine translation tool in the Russian language increased playtime by 3.6% for those who used it compared with those who didn't.
Nintendo Co., Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., and other companies have stopped selling in Russia. The moves are in line with a long list of multinational companies that have withdrawn from the country.
As a global platform, Roblox believes the right direction is to enable people around the world to stay as connected as possible.
There was a withdrawal of business from Russia.
At the developers conference, Roblox announced that it would be introducing ads into its virtual worlds next year. Roblox has partnerships with some of the biggest companies in the world to offer users branded games, virtual concerts and items. Baszucki said that the plan is for players to be able to interact with advertisements inside of games, including ones that function as portals.
(Updates to add plans for advertising. An earlier version of this story was corrected to clarify that growth in Russia came from use of a translation tool.)
