There are 32 teams. A total of sixteen games. There are three African American head coaches. The Week 1 box score for the National Football League has those tattooed on it. There are only three Black coaches in the NFL this season due to the new Miami Dolphins head coach. It is a good time to remember that half of the coaches in the NBA are Black and that the XFL will have more Black coaches than the NBA when it begins play in 2023. The class-action lawsuit against the league for its racist hiring practices led to the hiring of the first black attorney general in the United States. You're screwed when you have to pay black people to defend you. Since 2000, only 26 black men have been hired as head coaches. They are usually brought in to clean up messes left by mediocre white coaches and given a limited amount of time to fix them. Black coaches rarely get a second chance at being a head coach on the pro level. When there is a black version of Jeff Fisher in the NFL, true equality will have been achieved. True change will occur when black coaches are allowed to go 8-8 every season and still be respected.
We are waiting to see what happens to Flores. The latest news came a few weeks ago when the lawyers for Flores, Horton, and Wilks alleged that the league wanted the case to be heard in private. The lawyers wrote that anarbitration would allow one-sided courts to decide the outcome.
If it isn't decided that a jury will be involved, the Commissioner of the National Football League will be the one to make a decision. For the second time in the last few years, the public would see how dirty the league can be when you dare to kneel against police brutality, as a result of the league's decision to not allow this to play out.
It's important stuff. It doesn't feel right if you've been paying attention.
Some of the big storylines for the upcoming season are being covered by websites like Yahoo Sports, Bleacher Report, Bally Sports, and even GQ Australia.
People are put to sleep by class action lawsuits.
There is a combination of the league wanting to get this over as quickly as possible, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, where Flores is an assistant coach, playing on national TV a minimum of five times this season. It will dominate headlines again when things are figured out. One of the main reasons why the NFL got into this situation was because we already know how these things work.
