Frank Reich said Friday that Leonard would not be playing in the season opener.
Leonard had back surgery in the summer in order to resolve pain in his lower limbs. Leonard is not in game shape despite returning to practice last week.
Reich said that he was a full participant in the practice because the Colts weren't in full pads. Leonard was limited for a second day.
Reich said there was no setbacks. There was nothing we could do to stop him from coming. He did a lot over the course of the day. He received his share. With the pads on, I felt it was a good idea to limit him.
With Leonard out, the Colts will use a rotation of Franklin and Speed.
Reich said that he is a great leader for the team. It sounds crazy to say that, but our guys have done a good job.
