Prince Charles is now King Charles III because of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Modifications have been made to the production of The Crown due to her passing.

The filming of The Crown was stopped on Thursday as a mark of respect, according to a spokesman for the streaming service. On the day of the queen's funeral, filming will be suspended.

The fifth season of the show will be released in November. The modified shooting schedule is a nod to the sensitivities surrounding the Queen's death and how closely the series is tied to the real life royal family.

The Crown will need to tread even more carefully now that the real Queen has passed

An example of how seriously The Crown takes its role as a fictionalized chronicle of the royal family's story was shown when an actor was selected to play the Queen.

The actor was seated behind a desk in a way that resembled Queen Elizabeth II's seated speeches from Windsor Castle. The actor is well known to international audiences due to her work in the Harry Potter and Downton Abbey franchise. She was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

For younger viewers who didn't grow up watching Queen Elizabeth II in the news, Staunton will be their new queen.

It has always been a challenge for the crown to depict the royal family. The pressure to do so will likely increase as the world watches the series on the life of the UK's longest reigning monarch.
