The New York Jets will be without left tackle Duane Brown for their opener against the Baltimore Ravens due to injuries.
Brown, who signed a two-year, $20 million contract in August, suffered a shoulder injury in Monday's practice and may be placed on injured reserve.
If the Jets decide to place Brown on IR, he will be out for at least four games.
The news comes just two days after the Jets announced that Wilson will miss at least the first three games as he recovers from knee surgery. In training camp, he injured his knee and needed surgery.
It's not an ideal situation with the opener so close because of Brown's injury.
Left tackle George Fant will move back to right tackle. He hadn't practiced there since the first week of August and it should be a smooth transition.
"I'm sure it's frustrating for George, everyone just wants to settle into their job, but credit to George." He's an athlete, he's versatile, and he's always been a team player. He is making it very easy for this transition to happen.
Right tackle is a big question. Max Mitchell is a fourth-round pick. Normally, it would go to a backup, but he missed the preseason because of an injury. He practiced on a limited basis but will be rusty.
The plan was to have Mitchell gain seasoning for a year on the bench. The plan didn't stay the same. He got a lot of work in the preseason and the coaches think he's a good fit in the lineup.
The concern with Mitchell is that he doesn't have the strength to deal with the pass rush. Campbell is a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
"Max is a long way from where we thought he'd be at this point." He will be able to do his job.
Brown was a risky acquisition because of his age, even though he had been a reliable player for the Seattle Seahawks. After a few days of conditioning, he was cleared to practice. He only practiced for a few days before getting hurt.
The 29-year-old man has a lot of life left in him. There weren't any indicators, but you can always play the hindsight.
