reposts, something that's never been available in the main feed part of the app but is a key feature on Facebook and Twitter, will soon be tested by the photo sharing app. Matt Navarra spotted it on the profile of Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Twitter.

Meta is exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed so people can share what they like, and so original creators are credited for their work. We are going to test this with a few people.

A new screen shows how the features can be used to recommend a post to friends and spark conversations. Feed reposts will be visible to followers in a separate tab in your profile.

The only way to post in feeds has been via third-party apps, which were first spotted back in May. TikTok introduced a feature for videos to be reposted after testing. Reposted TikTok videos do not show up in your own profile.

A number of updates have been introduced to help it compete with TikTok. It launched a full-screen TikTok feed and increased the amount of recommended content you see. The full-screen mode would be phased out and the recommended posts would be scaled back.

Social media experts are concerned that reposts may cause similar issues. Andrew Hutchinson wrote that "reposting is another explicit step towards dismantling the IG that you know, in favor of one thatInstagram thinks will be a better experience for you." There is a desire for more authentic connection and community engagement outside of the constant highlight reels of viral clips.
