The Queen passed away on Thursday at the age of 96.

She was a major world figure through wars, social change and global health crises. She met all but Lyndon B. Johnson. It was decades after Hoover left office that she met him.

The president and first lady said that the queen was more than a monarch. Shedefined an era.

The bedrock alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States was strengthened byQueen Elizabeth II. The Bidens recalled that they first met Queen Elizabeth in 1982, when they traveled to the UK as part of a Senate delegation.

During our first overseas trip as President and First Lady, she befriended us with her wit, kindness, and generosity, and we were honored to have her as a friend.

Queen Elizabeth spent a lot of time with American presidents.

During her first visit to Washington, the queen met with Truman. She became queen the next year.

According to Johnson's presidential library, Queen Elizabeth didn't meet with him in person. The queen and prince visited Johnson's library in 1991.

At a reception for leaders attending the Group of 20 nations summit in London, Barack Obama and the queen met. Obama and his wife were invited to a state visit by the queen.

She welcomed us to the world stage with open arms when we were just beginning to navigate life as President and First Lady. We were struck by her warmth, the way she put people at ease, and how she brought her considerable humor and charm to certain moments.

In July of last year, Donald Trump and Queen Elizabeth met. "Queen Elizabeth's historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain," said Trump.

In his Wednesday statement, Biden mentioned that he met Queen Elizabeth as president in June 2021.

Following Queen Elizabeth's death, the Bidens said that she helped Americans commemorate the bicentennial of our independence. She stood in solidarity with the United States during our darkest days after 9/11.
