Today's news that seems stranger than fiction is a text message sent by Musk in which he claims that he was reconsidering his deal to buy Twitter because of the possibility of World War III.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk made the comment to the Morgan Stanley lender in early May, just two weeks after agreeing to buy the micro-messaging service.

Lawyers on both sides of the case said that Musk had been in contact with a high-ranking whistle blower. He was concerned about a war breaking out.

Just a few days is enough. The head of global technology investment banking at Morgan Stanley received a letter from the CEO of the two companies. If we're going into World War III, it won't make sense to buy a social networking site.

Alex Spiro, Musk's lawyer, told Insider that the full exchange between his client and the Morgan Stanley executive would be filed next week. Spiro said the read-along of the Musk text was nonsense.

Context, Please

The back-and-forth between Musk's defense and Twitter's attorneys was described by Insider as something of a he- said, she- said.

According to Musk's attorneys, their client changed his mind about the deal after speaking to Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, a former head of security at the social media company.

Spiro said that the theory about what really happened is not what actually happened.

It's up to a judge to decide if Zatko's claims can be used in Musk's countersuit.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the wide-ranging hearing on trade barbs.

Musk is accused of pumping up the value of doge coin.
