According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Tony La Russa is hoping to return to the team as soon as next week.
A ceremony to retire the jersey of Dave Stewart will take place on Sunday, and the 77-year-old is hoping to be with the team. The pitcher and La Russa won the World Series together.
La Russa took a leave of absence from the White Socks on August 31.
The team said that Tony La Russa would be undergoing additional testing in Arizona by his personal physicians. His absence from the club will last indefinitely.
The team has a 6-3 record with Cairo as the interim manager. The squad has won all three of its series so far.
