For the first time this past weekend, and intentionally, no matter what they may say, WWE and AEW ran pay-per-views/PLEs on the same weekend, possibly being in direct competition with each other for the first time since the cancellation of NXT. It feels like a good time to see where the companies are individually and in relation to each other with big changes and exciting stories. The biggest story in wrestling is finished here. When it comes to Sir Punk, we don't know what will happen tomorrow.
The line between those who speak truth to power and those who are just jealously bitching is very thin. Some people call out wrongdoing or things that aren't right because they are doing what is right, but there is a lot of other people who feel cheated and betrayed because they didn't get what they deserved.
CM Punk became the wrestling icon by being seen as a truth-teller. Punk was the real deal, and he would tell the fans and everyone around him exactly how everything was, no matter what anyone said or did to him. Punk has only ever been interested in securing his place, he's jealous about things we can't identify, and his so-called truth-to-power is just a large amount of very polished whine.
Punk taking a flame-thrower to AEW was probably safe in the knowledge that he was going to be out for a long time again through injury, so what did it mean? Punk's "pipe bomb" doesn't appear anymore as someone trying to pull back the curtain on a company that was keeping the fans' from the best wrestling they could have versus someone just angry he wasn't getting what he deserved It doesn't mention that Punk was given a 400+ day reign as champion, to become a celebrity and open doors he wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
Punk's late-night rant didn't have anything to do with what he was asked or what the discussion was about Whether or not Punk had a blackball was not the subject of the discussion. It wouldn't have mattered if I said, "I have no relationship with him anymore" While the aim was to deny that Punk had anything to do with where Cabana was, Punk spent five minutes basically saying, "Well I didn't have anything to do with his job, but here are all the reasons I hate." Even though they are grilled, you still call them steamed hams.
Punk doesn't have much to say that holds water. When Hangman accused Adam Page of costing AEW a big gate at Double Or Nothing, those tickets sold out in minutes, as all of AEW's pay per view's tend to, and before Hangman had anything to say about or to Punk. Punk threatened to walk out on the show so who was at risk?
The only company that can run a company is the one that started from scratch and has a major TV deal. They haven't accomplished anything except for making NJPW and ROH household names among wrestling fans to the point where they could start their own company Punk has made it clear that being a big name in the company doesn't mean much to him.
At the time, Page's comments were not that serious. Punk sat on them for months while he was injured and then decided to make it a thing when he came back to make himself feel better. I have seen the movie "Dracula: Dead And Loving It" and I know what it says about me.
Which leads one to wonder what Punk is really angry about. He is rebelling against something. He was brought in with a bag of money that was much larger than an elephant. He was given a show in the United Center to let the world know he was back. He was given every chance to win. He was given the top spot after a short time in the company. The biggest name in Japanese wrestling was going to be facing him. He was given the title again in his hometown on Sunday after missing through injury and his first set of self-interested shenanigans. He could have asked for more. He's lashing out at someone.
Punk thinks that the people who made the most money off of his name are Vince McMahon and his friend, Cabana. CM Punk has made a lot of money off it. Punk gets everything he wants and still looks for more.
It's like the heyday of the man who was famous for protecting his top spot in both WWF and WCW. Backroom politics, booking decisions, refusing to work with people, and even busting union efforts, were just some of the things that Hogan was known for. Hogan was limited in the ring, and his fame and position were built on his personality, and maybe he knew how far behind he was when it came to in-ring work. It's possible that he was always worried about what he could do and that's why he fought so hard to stay on top of them.
Punk isn't that He is good at wrestling. It was a very nice one. He may have been one of the best wrestlers in the past. He isn't all that special in Aew. Bryan Danielson, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, and a few others could all argue they are better than him. The first two are better than the third. He is still a very good promo, but Moxley, Kingston, or MJF are better than him. When he tries to tear it all down, he doesn't stick out.
The people Punk tried to fight and ran down in front of the media actually helped engineer the change he wanted to take credit for. A new wrestling company started by them has grown into a popular one. Punk looks to be pissing himself because he can't take credit for what happened.
Punk said he wanted to increase the profile of the company's young wrestlers. He did it for a short time with all three of them. Punk continued to complain about working with Page and MJF. There was a guy who wanted to help. He did the same thing to young wrestlers in New York.
Without him, Aew will survive. It's easily done. They will pack shows with great matches that fans will want to attend. There are multiple candidates for the title of "best wrestler in the world". It can always bring in Kazuchika Okada when it's needed. Who is capable of making that claim? No one. Some fans will whine and bitch. For a while, it might be commonplace to chant "C-M-PUNK!" They will fade after good matches and good stories. It was a thing before Punk showed up.
Punk has spent most of his life getting what he wants. It becomes clear at some point that it is only for himself. The hole can never be filled. When AEW stops filling it, it will be better off.
