According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, Elizabeth died peacefully at the castle surrounded by her family.

All of the queen's children and grandsons traveled to Balmoral to be with her after she was placed under medical supervision because of her health concerns.

One of the queen's last royal engagements was a Tuesday meeting with new British Prime Minister Liz Truss, but she didn't have to travel because she was in Scotland.

At the time of her death, Elizabeth was the longest-serving head of state in the world and the oldest British monarch.

The queen did not attend several planned appearances due to her poor health after she died a month after celebrating her Platinum Jubilee.
