The royal family rushed to the Scottish Highlands to be with Queen Elizabeth II when she died on Thursday.

In addition to the senior royals, Prince Harry flew to Scotland to be with his grandmother. The statement from the duke and duchess said that the bride would be staying in London and that she might go to Balmoral later in the day.

There is a very public falling out between Harry and the rest of the royal family. One week ago, New York magazine published a controversial interview withMeghan in which she continued to speak critically about her time as a working royal. She talked about the strained relationship between Prince Harry and his father.

At the time of the announcement about the Queen's health for a European trip, the couple were already in the U.K. According to the Daily Express, the couple did not originally plan on visiting the Queen during their trip.

They were supposed to appear at the awards. She won't be attending the awards while she is in London. During the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June, Harry andMeghan were in the country. The 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death coincides with their return to the U.K.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement that the Queen's doctors were concerned for her health and that she should remain under medical supervision. Her death was announced by the royal family.

Due to mobility issues and health concerns, the Queen had to forgo several public appearances since February, including opening Parliament in May and the Platinum Jubilee celebration marking her 70th anniversary as the country's monarch. Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward were among those who rushed to join the Queen.

William's wife, Kate, did not travel to Scotland and stayed at their home in Windsor, England to look after their children.

The Queen usually stayed at the castle from August through October. Boris Johnson and Lizz Truss both traveled to Balmoral due to the Queen's mobility issues. Each new Prime Minister was appointed by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. During an audience with the Queen on Tuesday, Johnson resigned as Prime Minister and shortly after the Queen appointed Lizz Truss as the new British Prime Minister.

The couple decided to take a break from being involved in the royal family over two years ago. They quit their royal duties permanently in order to avoid the intense media scrutiny that they said they had faced. Since the couple decided to resign and move to California, they kept in touch with the Queen and kept an eye on their children.

In January 2020, the couple said they would step back as senior members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while still supporting the Queen.
