Queen Elizabeth II, the world's longest-serving monarch who as a teen witnessed the horrors of World War II and saw the agonies of a deadly Pandemic, has died.

She was over the age of 100.

She died under a plan known as "Operation London Bridge". Charles became king when his mother died.

After the death of her father, George VI, Elizabeth became Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She was crowned on June 2,1953.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth passes away at age 96

The first British monarch to rule 70 years was Elizabeth. The United Kingdom and the Commonwealth held a Platinum Jubilee.

During the first day of the Platinum Jubilee, the 96-year-old monarch waved to tens of thousands of people gathered below and watched an aviation display in her honor. She wasn't able to attend events later on due to her pain.

Elizabeth had a period of huge social, economic, technological and political change. The British Empire was transformed into a Commonwealth of 52 independent nations headed by the queen. Liz Truss was sworn in by the frail queen only two days before she died, making her the 15th prime minister to serve under her.

She was in charge of a family that saw tragedy, scandal and turmoil, including the death of Princess Diana, the association of son Prince Andrew with a sex criminal, and the decision by grandson Prince Harry to seek a more private life with his wife.

In 1937, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were born following the abdication of Edward VIII. King Alfred the Great was England's first monarch and she was his 32nd great-granddaughter.

Margaret, who was born in 1930, was educated at home by a tutor.

The United Kingdom was plunged into World War II after Elizabeth's father was crowned. She made her first radio broadcast when she was 14 years old, addressing children who had been evacuated to the countryside to avoid the bombs of British cities.

She said that everyone would be well in the end. God will provide us with victory and peace. The world of tomorrow will be a better place when peace comes.

The teenage princess was a driver for the auxiliary territorial service.

Elizabeth and Prince Philip were married for 70 years. King George III and Queen Charlotte had married for 57 years, but their marriage lasted 7312 years.

Elizabeth became the oldest and longest-reigning British monarch in 2015. She became the world's longest-reigning monarch after the death of Thailand's King Adulyadej.

She celebrated six jubilees, her 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 65th and 70th years on the throne, as well as the marriages of her four children and the births of eight grandchildren.

The wedding of Charles to Lady Diana Spencer was watched by a billion people around the world.

There were two assassinations attempts in Australia and New Zealand in the 70s and 80s. Lord Mountbatten, Prince Philip's uncle, was killed by an Irish Republican Army bomb in 1979.

In 1969 the queen opened the doors of the palace to cameras to take a look at the family. Millions of Britons watched the documentary "Royal Family" on the PBS. It led to the frenzied celebrity coverage of members of the Windsors, as the family is known, according to critics. Since 1972, it hasn't been aired.

Forty years after she ascended to the throne and four days after the Windsor fire, she said in a speech that she would look back with pleasure. One of my more sympathetic correspondents said that it had turned out to be an 'annus horribilis'. I think I'm not alone in that.

It wasn't so good in 2002. Her mother, Queen Elizabeth, the 101-year-old Queen Mother, passed away seven weeks later.

Despite republican sentiment at home and in the Commonwealth, Elizabeth rose above the gossip and opprobrium, with her personal popularity generally remaining high.

She was vilified for staying at the castle for five days after Diana's death. Buckingham Palace issued a brief statement saying that the queen and Charles were deeply shocked and distressed by the news. The royal family decided not to immediately return to London and instead stayed at Balmoral.

Many of her subjects were angry that Buckingham Palace didn't have a flag. The flag was not flown on the palace until she came back there. Princes William and Harry were prepared for their mother's funeral by staying at Balmoral.

On the eve of the funeral, the queen gave a live televised speech, mourning the death of the Princess of Wales and remembering her as a devoted mother.

The queen said that no one who knew Diana would forget her. She will be remembered by millions of others who never met her. There are lessons to be learned from her life and death. You are determined to preserve her memory.

In a sign of how far the monarchy has come, the niece of the king who abdicated his throne so that he could marry an American divorcee welcomed the November 2017.

The queen was happy to see the birth of Archie on May 6, 2019.

The House of Windsor was thrown into turmoil by the charges of racism and insensitivity to an outsider.

In early 2020, Elizabeth convened an emergency meeting with Charles, William and Harry to discuss the latter's attempt to step back from royal duties. The queen made a post-meeting statement.

My family and I are all in agreement with Harry andMeghan's desire to start a new life as a young family. Although we would have liked them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their desire to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.

The couple confirmed their decision a year later. The duke and duchess are still very much part of the family according to the queen.

The charges of racism were aired during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March of 2021. While pregnant with Archie, a member of "The Firm" raised concerns about how dark his skin might be. The couple didn't say who raised the issue, but they did say it wasn't Elizabeth or Philip. The family had withdrawn security protection for them, as well as the woman who said she had thought about taking her own life.

In a statement after the interview aired, the queen responded with concern and sensitivity. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are troubling and will be addressed by the family privately.

Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born three months later in June 2021.

Elizabeth was criticized after it was reported that she allowed Andrew to be interviewed in Buckingham Palace by the British Broadcasting Corporation. Andrew said that the queen gave him permission to step back from public duties for the foreseeable future.

It was on the 72nd anniversary of the queen and Philip tying the knot.

Ireland, a country that spent the first half of the 20th century fighting for independence from the U.K., was an example of how the queen's years of diplomacy and experience won over people. Her visit to Ireland was the first by a British monarch in a century.

Addressing a dinner in her honor at Dublin Castle, Elizabeth began her speech by saying, "A Uachtarain, agus a chairde."

Through the history of our islands, they have experienced more than their fair share of pain and loss. She extended her sympathies to the people who have suffered as a result of the troubled past.

Historical hindsight allows us to see things we would have liked to have done differently or not at all. The strength of the bonds between the governments and the people of our two nations is something that no one could have imagined in the past. The world was shut down as a result of the coronaviruses epidemic.

The queen made a rare video speech from Windsor Castle in 2020 to assure her subjects that they will prevail over the coronaviruses. Hours before Boris Johnson was hospitalized, the speech was aired.

She said that the challenge is different than before. We are joining with all nations across the globe in a common endeavor using the great advances of science and our innate compassion to heal.

Elizabeth and Philip received their first vaccinations in January of 2021.

There were Covid restrictions during Philip's funeral. The queen wore black instead of her usual bright colors as she sat alone in mourning.

The queen has been amazing, according to the daughter-in-law of the queen. On her 95th birthday, Elizabeth issued a statement saying she had been "deeply touched" by her subjects' support and kindness.

The queen said victory over Covid in her speech.

We will succeed, and that success will belong to each of us.
