T- Mobile customers will soon be able to get free wi-fi on United Airlines flights.
The United Airlines website now says the following:
If you’re an eligible T-Mobile customer, starting this fall you’ll get free inflight Wi-Fi on all United domestic and international flights.
Availability on flights operated by United Express will soon follow. Be sure to check back here for updates.
T-Mobile customers will be able to use free wi-fi on all United flights. I don't know if this will apply to a mobile device or if you can use it on a laptop.
Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines have all had T-Mobile offer free inflight wi-fi. Over time, the value of that has decreased as both American and Delta have switched to Viasat.
The agreement seems to be unrelated to which aircraft the provider has. There are four different providers that United uses. This is the first time that T-Mobile customers will be able to use free wi-fi.
On select flights, United Airlines gives all customers free messaging.
United is a distant third when it comes to the reliability and speed of its inflight wi-fi offering. It is nice to have free wi-fi, but for some customers it may take some of the sting out of the situation.
I think it is important to acknowledge that Delta is close to offering free wi-fi to all passengers as that is something the airline has been working on for a long time. It is thought that American will match Delta eventually as the airline has the bandwidth to do so. The airline has been giving away free wi-fi for a long time.
T-Mobile customers will be able to use free wi-fi on all United Airlines flights. I am curious to learn more about this exciting development. I wouldn't be surprised to see Delta give out free wi-fi to all passengers at once.
What do you think about United giving free wi-fi to T-Mobile?
