Queen Elizabeth II Has Died

Elizabeth became engaged to Philip Mountbatten. The news of their engagement should not be made public until after she turns 21.

She gave a speech during a tour of South Africa for her birthday. She said she would devote her entire life to her service and the service of the great imperial family.

The couple wed in a simple ceremony at the abbey. As Britain was still recovering from the war, Elizabeth had to collect coupons for her clothes.

Their first child was born at Buckingham Palace. Anne was born in the year 1950.

Princess Elizabeth visited Philip four times. After King George was diagnosed with lung cancer, Elizabeth had to take on more and more royal duties.

On February 6, 1952, Elizabeth got the news from her husband that her father had died and that she would become the new queen. Her tour was stopped and she returned to Britain as a queen.
