Cook was answering audience questions at the Code Conference when a man asked about improving cross- device messaging.
Cook said he didn't hear users asking for a lot of energy on that. I would like to convert you to an Apple device.
The audience member said that he and his mother can't send videos because she doesn't have a phone.
Cook told the crowd to buy their mother an Apple product.
Rich Communications Services, or RSC, is a modern industry standard for improving the image, video, and text quality of messages between devices. Text-only messages are being sent by Apple.
Some people complain about poorly converted videos and other media when they send them between phones. It's also why the green text appears on the phone. Leadership acknowledged in legal documents that the move has kept users locked into the Apple ecosystems for years.
In one of the documents, an Apple executive said that moving to an operating system other than Apple's would hurt the company more.
The issue has been worked into the marketing by the search engine giant.
In early August, Google launched a campaign on its website accusing Apple of failing to improve the user experience.
