Steve Bannon surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney's office on Thursday and was charged with money-laundering and conspiracy related to his effort to raise private funds to build a wall on the southern border.

His attorney said that he would plead not guilty.

On Donald Trump's last day in office in 2021, he pardoned Steve Bannon for federal charges. He is accused of using some of the money he raised for the wall to cover his personal expenses.

The former chairman and chief executive of the 2016 Trump campaign has called the charges against him a lie.

On the very day that the mayor of this city has a delegation down on the border, they are persecuting people that try to stop them at the border, that's ironic. I will always fight. I have yet to start fighting. They are going to have to kill me.

The nickname "Sloppy Steve" was given to the man by the former president after he reconciled with him.
