A majority of both Democrats and Republicans think the US should have a maximum age limit for public office, according to a CBS poll.

Republicans and Independents were more likely than Democrats to support age limits, with 75% of GOP voters and Independents in favor.

According to the survey, 27% of voters think there should be no limits.

40% said 70 is the maximum age to serve as an elected official, 26% said 60 and 18% said 80.

The maximum age should be 80, but former President Donald Trump would be 78 by the end of his term, and current President Joe Biden would be 81 by the end of his term.

45% of Americans are interested in seeing more women run for office, while 41% want more people of color to serve as elected officials, and 32% want more political representation for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer community.

According to several reports, about half of U.S. senators are older than 65, even though they only represent 16% of the total American population.

When Biden was inaugurated as president in 2021, he was 78 years old, while Trump was 70. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the oldest of the several Democratic party leaders. McConnell is 80 while Schumer is 71. More than two-thirds of Democratic voters who don't want to see Biden run for president again in 2024 list his age as the primary reason, according to a July New York Times poll. According to the New York Times/ Siena College poll, young people were more likely than any other age group to say they wouldn't vote for Trump or Biden in a second presidential election.
