Graham Potter is set to become the new manager of the Blues in the next 24 hours.
Potter reached a verbal agreement with the club after speaking to the owner.
Potter wasn't in charge of the team's session at the training ground.
The club hopes to have a new manager in place before the game against the Cottagers.
The club is currently sixth in the premier league and has held talks with two people about the position.
It is not known who will speak to the media at the press conference on Friday.
The club's highest ever top-flight finish was ninth place last season under Potter.
Potter, a former full-back in the Football League, began his managerial career with the first team of Swedish football in 2010, guiding them from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the first.
He joined the Seagulls after Chris Hughton was dismissed, spending one season with the Championship side.
Potter, who has been tipped as a future England boss, has led the Seagulls to fourth in the table this season after four wins, one draw and one loss.
