Saudi Arabia is planning on launching a mega-airline called "RIA", which may be named after it.
According to a report, the CEO of the airline is being considered.
According to Arabian Business, RIA is trying to get Tony Douglas to be the CEO of the Saudi Arabian airline startup. According to reports, Douglas is RIA's "top choice".
The Public Investment Fund is said to be confident that it can get Douglas to head up the new airline. Saudi Arabia is willing to spend a lot of money on everything.
Douglas was the CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports Company and the British Airports Authority.
I used to wonder how serious the RIA concept was. There are multiple people who are leaving their jobs at other airlines to work at this startup. It seems risky, but I think it could be rewarding.
Tony Douglas has done a good job at the airport. In order to grow the airline into a mega-carrier, the previous CEO wanted to build a global alliance of airlines, which went out of business. The airline has been shrunk to profitability by Douglas.
He has done a good job of controlling costs. I preferred the A380s, The Residence, and the millions of dollars spent to have Nicole Kidman in ads. I would not want to invest in that airline, but I enjoyed flying with it.
I have a lot of respect for Douglas, but he is a bit odd for an airline startup that is looking to grow quickly.
It would be interesting to see how he grows an airline from scratch, balancing costs with luxury, forming a frequent flyer program, establishing partnerships, and so on.
He has experience with aviation in the region. Most senior executives in the region are too old to start a airline or have too many ties to a country to work in Saudi Arabia.
Tony Douglas is said to be the target of Saudi Arabia's mega airline startup. I would like to know what comes of this. I think Saudi Arabia can pay enough for him to make the switch, but the question is whether he is willing to take the risk of moving to Saudi Arabia.
What do you think about Tony Douglas?
