United Airlines is pouring more money into the future of electric air taxis, which the carrier says could help reduce carbon emissions once the aircraft come to market.
The carrier agreed to buy 200 electric air taxis from Eve Air Mobility and has the option to buy 200 more. The New York Stock Exchange listed Eve in May.
The first deliveries of the aircraft are expected to take place early in the 20th century.
There was an agreement to purchase 100 electric aircraft from Archer Aviation.
Other airlines including American have invested in or committed to purchasing electrical vertical-take-off-and-landing aircraft in order to argue that the new technology could reduce emissions.
The one-way cost to the airport would be between $100 and $150 according to Michael Leskinen.
Leskinen said on the call that there are still questions about the infrastructure for the aircraft. Infrastructure is required for takeoff and landing.
The industry is going to accelerate later this decade.
