The last two years have erased years of gains in education, life expectancy and standards of living, according to a report by the United Nations.

The UN Development Program said that the last two years have set human progress back five years.

Nine out of 10 countries are moving backwards on the UN's Human Development Index, which is a broad measure of countries' standards of living, education levels and life expectancy.

The UNDP said that the value of the index fell in both 2020 and 2021.

Five years of progress have been erased by the past two years, according to the UNDP.

According to the UNDP, Latin America, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia have been hit the hardest.

The U.S. is in the 21st spot on the index, while Chad and South Sudan are at the bottom.

Over the past two years, the Covid-19 pandemic has been a key driver of instability due to worsening consequences of climate change. Disruption from the Pandemic has been broad, affecting life expectancy through deaths from the virus and other health disruptions but also closing schools, workplace and shutting swathes of the economy. Life expectancy has fallen in the US for two years in a row. Missed classroom time and other disruptions pushed US reading levels back two decades. Black, Hispanic, and multiracial students were impacted more by disruption and access to technology than their white peers, according to data.

The report doesn't expand on the effects of the war in Ukraine, but it does say that it's causing a lot of human suffering. This impact is likely to be large.
