Jony Ive isn't a fan of cars using too many touchscreen controls, and says they're an example of an interface being inappropriate

During a panel with the former Apple design lead, Tim Cook, and Laurene Powell Jobs, Kara Swisher asked Ive what he thought of current design trends. It might be time for a shift back to more physical controls after I said that there were "fabulous affordances with interface like multitouch."

Ive said that the pendulum may swing a bit to have interface and products that are more engaging. Ive responded to Swisher's suggestion that cars were an example of where multitouch has been used too much.

As more and more cars use touchscreens for things like climate or even drive controls, there's been debate over whether they decrease driver safety The debate about how long it takes to do certain tasks was sparked by a test that measured how long it took people to do certain things. According to the publication, physical buttons are superior to touchscreens.

Swisher asked Ive how he'd design a car. He said he couldn't talk to her about that.
