If you don't want to walk around feeling like you have a brick in your pocket, I have bad news for you.
Today was the big fall event for the company, but there was no mention of a new Apple product. Tim Cook said during the firm's splashy keynote that Apple is "going big with the iPhone 14 and even bigger with the iPhone 14 Plus"
The Max has gained half a millimeter in depth over the past few versions, but the latest iPhones aren't noticeably larger than they were last year. If you want something smaller but with all the latest features, you're out of luck. There isn't an alternative to the iPhone 14 Mini, and competing phone lines aren't suitable alternatives. It makes small-hand-havers cry.
I have something in my eye and I don't cry.
I prefer the Mini because I have large hands. They are more pocketable and less expensive than their counterparts. Smaller phones are easier to put down when I realize I have spent a lot of time on social media.
It's possible that Apple has something new in the works. It might surprise us with a small phone in the spring like it did in 2016 with the resurrection of the iPhone 5 form factor. I wouldn't bet on that, given the Mini's weak sales and Apple's tendency for bulkier, laptop priced hand computers.
If you prefer a phone that is large, please know that I support you. It's easier to follow directions on the go with a bigger screen. Bigger devices have more space for beefier batteries and camera systems.
Maybe you want a big phone to fit in the king-sized pockets on your clothes.
I am not here to judge anyone other than the decision makers at Apple. They abandoned the smaller iPhone SE in the middle of last year, and now they're doing the same thing with the Mini. I am extremely sad.
You can still get the Mini as it fades. If you want a phone from Apple with all the latest features, you're out of luck.
