After over a month and a half of negotiations, Russia has returned the body of Paul Urey. Urey was taken captive by pro-Russian forces in the DPR. He died while in jail. Russia claimed that Urey died from stress andillness. Urey died as a result of torture.

According to Lubinets, Urey's torture and murder is a war crime which will be used in the tribunal against the Russian political and military leadership.
On 15 July, Daria Morozova, the DPR's "ombudsman" who deals with prisoners' rights, wrote on Telegram that Urey died due to illness and stress.
On 29 April, the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of the non-profit Presidium Network said that Urey had been taken into custody at a checkpoint in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, in southern Ukraine.
Urey appeared on Russian state television in handcuffs. He said things that were in line with Russian propaganda.
