During its Far Out event, Apple gave us a glimpse at the new iPhone 14, three new Apple Watch models, and the next generation of earbuds. What about all the things Apple didn't say?

We had heard a lot of rumors leading up to the event, but some of them didn't pan out. Everything that could come in the future is here.

The mixed-reality headset

Apple's mixed-reality headset has become the center of attention at its events, with rumors about the device only getting more detailed. There was no sign of the headset at the event.

We don't expect the headset until early next year, with an Apple analyst predicting it could be on the market in January. Apple has applied for two trademarks that could hint at its brand.

A headset powered by an M2 chip is supposed to be capable of mixed-reality experiences. Apple's board of directors tried out the device earlier this year, and hopefully we won't have to wait a long time to see it for ourselves.

We can all exhale a sigh of relief on this one. The prices of the Pro and Pro Max models were not raised by Apple. The Pro and Pro Max will start at the same prices.

Satellite calling and texting

The Far Out event branding made it seem like the company was about to launch a revolutionary satellite-powered connection for the phone. Rumors about Apple's plans to support satellite calling and messaging have been floating around for months.

There was something to the rumors. The ability to send an emergency alert using satellite was announced by Apple. It is nice to see that this feature has come to fruition. Apple could get into the game eventually, with carriers like T-Mobile looking to use satellite messaging.

The day before the event, Apple announced support for satellite texting on its Mate series devices, so it might have thought it was going to reveal some crazy new features.

A fever-detecting feature for the Watch Series 8

A new feature for the Watch Series 8 was rumored to be introduced. Two new temperature sensors were added to the device, but their main purpose is for fertility tracking.

Users can figure out when they lastovulated with the help of the Watch Series 8. Maybe Apple will add this feature in the future to alert you if you have a sick child. Mark Gurman warned that the ability to detect temperature could be held back due to internal testing.

A new iPhone Mini

There isn't a new Mini model in the iPhone 14 lineup. The latest iteration of the Mini came out last year, and it may be the last one. It's not appealing to those who prefer a larger screen, but it's small and portable, so it's ideal to carry around in your pocket.

I am not ruling out another Mini. The Plus model of the phone was reintroduced by Apple. Maybe if Apple sees demand for a smaller device in the future it will bring it back?

Lossless audio for the new AirPods Pro

Tim Cook calls the most advanced AirPods the "most advanced", but they don't come with a built-in gps device. The second-gen AirPods Pro come with some improvements, including improved noise cancellation and spatial audio, but they don't come with the rumored lossless audio that was supposed to improve audio quality significantly.

Even if we didn't get the best audio, at least Apple included it. Better audio is a result of the new LC3 audio codec being used in this version ofBluetooth.

A USB-C port for the iPhone

This one was a long shot but we all can dream. Europe and even Brazil have put pressure on Apple to ditch its proprietary Lightning port, and we can expect Apple to do the same soon. According to a report, Apple is testing a new feature on the phone, but it won't be available until the second half of the century.

What’s up next

This October, Apple is expected to add to its Mac and iPad lineups with a new device.

An entry-level iPad with a refreshed design and a new iPad Pro with an M2 chip are likely to be released there. Three new Macs with the M2 processor are rumored to be announced by Apple, including a Mac Mini, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pro. iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura are expected to be launched around this time.
