According to Department of Homeland Security data obtained by CNN, nearly 750 migrants have died along the southern border in the last four years.

According to CNN, there have been 748 deaths confirmed since the fiscal year started on October 1st.
The previous record for deaths reported in a fiscal year was 556.
It's not clear if there was a singular cause for the massive increase in deaths, but the Southwest has been plagued by a series of heat waves and is experiencing what is believed to be its worst dry spell in 1,200 years.
Over the last two years, Border Patrol agents have arrested more than 200,000 people along the border every month.
In July, the most recent month for which figures are available, the number dipped just below 200,000, but that's still five times the amount arrested in July 2020.
A request for comment from the Department of Homeland Security was not responded to.
The migrant surge has become a point of political tension between liberals and conservatives in the US, and President Joe Biden is facing criticism from both sides. Many Democrats have urged the White House to provide more humanitarian aid while conservatives have slammed Biden for not implementing tougher security measures at the border. When it comes to handling the border, Biden's approval ratings are the worst of his career. The number of people who approve of Biden's border policies plummets among independents. Immigration is the most pressing issue facing the country at the moment, with 8% of those surveyed saying it is the most pressing issue.
The majority of migrants crossing into the U.S. are not from Mexico. The shift is due to rising political and economic stability in South and Central America.
Abbott has launched a busing program for migrants released from federal custody in Texas, giving them taxpayer funded one-way trips to Washington, DC, New York City or Chicago.
