The portal to hell appeared in the Gulf of Mexico last year. Not to alarm you, but it is leaking methane now.

Pemex, the company that owns the oil and gas line in the Gulf of Mexico, said a lightning strike caused the fire.

Methane is leaking by the ton from the same rig.

Very Gassy

In 24 days in August, Ku-Maloob-Zaap leaked 44,064 tons of methane into the atmosphere, according to a report. About the same amount of homes use electricity each year as the equivalent of leaking 3.7 million tons of carbon dioxide, according to the EPA.

It is estimated that methane is 80 times more dangerous than a greenhouse gas.

At what point will the dangers of fossil fuels outweigh the profits made from them?

There is more on Earth and energy.
