In 24 days in August, Ku-Maloob-Zaap leaked 44,064 tons of methane into the atmosphere, according to a report. About the same amount of homes use electricity each year as the equivalent of leaking 3.7 million tons of carbon dioxide, according to the EPA.
It is estimated that methane is 80 times more dangerous than a greenhouse gas.
