According to a new Yahoo News/You Gov poll, President Biden leads Donald Trump by the widest margin since March, as his approval rating continues to bounce back from its summertime lows.

The survey was conducted after a combative speech by Biden in which he called out Trump and the Republicans as Extremists.

45% of registered voters would choose Biden while 42% would choose Trump if the election were held today, according to the poll. Biden has a 6-point lead over Trump, which is three points larger than the previous Yahoo News/You Gov survey from late August, and four points better than his average lead across all Yahoo News/You Gov surveys. The margin of error is small.

The last time Biden led Trump by 6 percentage points or more was in March 2022. The time before that was in May of 2020. Biden's support is in line with previous highs.

Biden is not a lock to beat Trump in the next election. Even though Trump lost the popular vote, he still won the Electoral College and became the 45th President of the United States. More Americans disapprove of Biden than approve of him.

The improvement in the president's numbers against his former opponent is a small sign that he is getting back on track. The Inflation Reduction Act, which will lower the cost of prescription drugs, electric vehicles and solar panels, is one of the reasons why his popularity has risen.

The gains of Biden have been concentrated on the left. The president has an approval rating of 40% among all Americans, which is unchanged since late August, and a disapproval rating of 50%. Biden has the highest number of registered voters among all of them.

The president's approval rating went up 7 points among Democrats and 6 points among independents over the last month.

More Democrats say America is headed in the right direction than it is off on the wrong path. The numbers were reversed early in the summer.

Biden has strengthened his standing, which had been looked weak for an incumbent. The number of Democrats and independents who prefer someone else over Biden has gone up by eight points and the number who prefer someone else has gone down by thirteen points.

Biden has gained more ground among Democrats. One month ago, he trailed 29% to 52%. Democrats now say by a 14-point margin that Biden should run again in 2024, compared to early August, when more Democrats said he shouldn't. The share of Democrats who think the president is up to the challenges facing the U.S has gone up by 10 points.

The FBI searched Mar-a-Lago on August 8 and the Republicans seem to have coalesced around him. A full 45% of Republicans and Republican leaners prefer Trump over someone else for the GOP nomination, up from 42% in early August.

There are new revelations about Trump's handling of highly classified documents. Less than half of Republicans prefer Trump. A growing number of independents think that Trump will be a weaker candidate in the future. A majority of Americans think the former president should not be allowed to serve again if he is found guilty of malfeasance. Only 25% of Americans think Trump should be allowed to serve again.

The Yahoo News survey used a nationally representative sample of 1,634 US adults to conduct. The sample was weighted according to gender, age, race and education based on the American Community Survey conducted by the US Bureau of the Census. The respondents were selected from the opt-in panel. There is a margin of error.
