Matt Berry as Laszlo in What We Do In The Shadows (Photos: FX)

As anyone who has watched What We Do In The Shadows knows, there is no one who is funnier than Matt Berry. Berry has words that stretch and distort in his mouth. In honor of this week's season finale, we asked the staff of The A.V. Club what their favorite Matt Berry line was.

My favorite line reading was delivered by Matt Berry and it was from the movie "On the Run." When Lucy inquires about Daytona's accent, he tells her it's just the way he speaks in Tucson, Arizona. In the context of Lazlo's alter ego, this delivery makes him a regular Joe who can't even say his home state's name correctly. Laszlo can wear blue jeans, plaid shirt, and stick in a toothpick, but he can't change his voice to fit the story of his disguise. It was so silly and perfect. The person is Gabriellenchez.

His pronunciation has always been his strongest point. His performance on Darkplace is deserved. Matt Berry is the voice of Dr.nchez. I am not immune to the pronunciation of his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. He trills the "zone" to "ya" masterfully. Matt Berry letting out a good hard "fuck" is one of the things that makes me smile. He's his best? I was doing the disco a century before anyone else. He throws something out that looks like a bottle and extends it into something else. We agree that Matt Berry invented disco. Matt Schimkowitz is a friend of mine.

An episode full of Matt Berry sound-bites doesn't get me until the end of the show. The Human Music Group decided to revive an old classic: "The Seafaring Song" from 1792, which may also sound familiar to anyone born in this century. Matt Berry pronounces two in a way that is so shattering it's hard to believe. I believe him when he says he invented disco because he also invented the idea of numbers. The person is Emma Keates.

I was going to look for a smash cut of all the times Lazlo yelled out "Shaunie!" but I couldn't find one. I am so disappointed in the internet. The friendship between Matt and his human next door neighbor is so pure that it is hard to believe. He describes Anthony Atamaniuk's Sean as his best friend in "Brain Scamblies" He's my rotten soldier. He is my good time boy. The little extra pop on theboa-ee is what sells it. The most amazing thing about Berry's line readings is how effortless they are, like the most brilliant improvisers do. "Everyone fucks and sucks, thousands of chaps and chapesses, before they meet the one" is not a single line, but three, featuring a hilarious and off-kilter rendition of those first words. Also calledchapesses. It's a perfect Laszlo-specific term. Jack Smart is one of the people.

Any dialogue thrown his way can be elevated by Matt Berry. No city is beyond his reach, thanks to his prominent pronunciations. In season four's fifth episode, "Private School," he casually and hilariously says, "Gizmo, shut the fuck up" We are doing something to the camera. The camera says, "CAM-er-uhh." The crew has known Laszlo for a long time. The way in which he says "piece to came-er-uhh" makes me think of how this isn't just any documentary; it's an Oscar-level cinema. Berry is showing off his poetry. We won either way. Saloni Gjjar.

The line that Berry uttered in "Pine Barrens" a couple of weeks back, when he tried to soothe the savage Jersey Devil with music didn't make me laugh harder over the last few months. They say it's rent-free in my head. I've beencrossed by the devil. I don't know how Berry knows, every single time, what the single funniest way to say a word is, but I'm damned grateful for it.
