At around 7 a.m., officers were seen moving in and out of Telles' house. The area outside the residence was taped off.

German was found stabbed to death at his home, but police said the killing happened during an altercation with someone the day before.

Police released photos this week of a suspect wearing a wide straw hat, reflective long-sleeved orange shirt and gloves, which concealed their identities, along with a description of a vehicle believed to be tied to the killing.

The vehicle was spotted in Telles' driveway.

Telles could not be reached for comment, as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told Forbes in a statement that it is currently serving search warrants.

The job of Telles is to secure property of residents after they die and administer estate transfers. He lost his reelection bid in June when he failed to win the Democratic nomination. German documented an inappropriate relationship between Telles and a staffer, as well as reports of office turmoil under Telles. German joined the Review-Journal after 40 years as a journalist. Glenn Cook said German had not raised any concerns about his safety.

The home of a county official was searched in the case of the reporter's killing.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on the turmoil within the county office.
