The THeMIS robotic vehicle is being offered a $16,000 bounty.
The vehicle is said to be used to evacuate wounded civilians.
Insider was told by the think tank that it wants to give the system to the Russian military.
A Moscow-based think tank with ties to Russia's military establishment is offering a large cash reward for the capture of a cutting-edge robotic vehicle that is being used to help evacuate wounded civilians.
ThEMIS is a ground vehicle that is remotely controlled. At least one unit has already been delivered toUkraine, where it is being used to carry medical aid and transport injured civilians.
The system, which can carry up to 1,650 pounds, can be weaponized so that it can be used in combat operations. It is emphasized in promotional literature that it is possible to transport battlefield casualties.
When asked if it intends to deliver a combat version of the system to Ukranian, the company did not reply immediately. A number of NATO members, including France, Germany, and the United States, have acquired versions of THeMIS.
Russia wants to be included.
Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, said in a statement that modern warfare is impossible without the widespread use of drones. He said that they were lagging behind in Russia.
The think tank is offering one million rubles, or more than $16,000, to anyone in the military or law enforcement who captures a THeMIS robotic vehicle and brings it to the defense ministry. According to The Washington Post, a person who signs a three-year contract to serve in the Russian military earns an annual salary of $13,000, while conscripts make less than $25 a month.
Pukhov said that information about foreign developments should be obtained by any means. Even if we can't study it, the platform being sold to Ukraine will do us good.
CAST shouldn't be seen as a direct arm of the Kremlin, although its researchers' views are generally consistent with the line being pushed by Moscow, according to a former CIA analyst who now works as a Russia expert.
The head of CAST has a lot of ties to the military establishment.
Pukhov was a member of the Public Council. He told Insider that he wants to give the Russian Army better systems. Capture and study of systems and platforms used by the enemy is one of the main ways to do so.
